Last Thursday, the House voted overwhelmingly (263-157) to kill a proposed one year moratorium on earmarks.

The vote came as an amendment to the House version of the Congressional budget resolution, which serves as a blueprint for overall spending for the next fiscal year.

However, as with a similar vote in the Senate on the same day, discussed in a previous post, the House vote also probably understates the Senate’s opposition to killing earmarks.  97% of the House received earmarks last year. You can rest assured that a majority of those who voted for the ban will be making earmark requests now that it has been defeated.
